Auditions

Audition Information

What to Expect:

Auditions and interviews will determine who will be accepted to enroll at The Premier Academy of Fine Arts of North Texas. Prospective students will complete an audition and interview. Students will be individually scored on a rubric by three judges during the audition, then will be personally interviewed by members of the leadership team including board members.

**PAFANTX will be holding auditions until all of our spots are filled!!**

 

Audition Time:

Once you sign up for an audition, you will receive a confirmation email, date, and time slot for your audition.

 

 

How to Prepare for your Audition

 

Musicians:

  • Musicians should prepare a 4-5 minute solo piece to sing/play from memory. Choose a piece that showcases the level of your ability. Bring a copy of the sheet music for the judges to read during the audition. 

  • Be prepared to sight read a medium-level piece & a high-level piece. 

  • Be prepared to play/sing your favorite song. 

  • Musicians will be judged on tone, pitch, accuracy of music played, and the individual unique touches of the musician.

Dancers:

  • Dancers should prepare two (2) 3-5 minute solo dances. Dances should be in a different style, and should showcase the dancer's abilities.

  • Dancers should wear appropriate clothing and shoes.

  • Be prepared to do an improv dance or demonstrate techniques of fundamentals of classical dance including: leaps, turns, kicks, arm movements, and unique moves. 

  • Dancers will be judged on difficulty of skill levels of jumps, leaps, turns, kicks, rhythm, whole body movement, strength, creativity, and interpretation of music.

 

Actors:

  • Actors should prepare a memorized monologue with a minimum of two minutes in length and not to exceed 10 minutes. Each actor will have one minute to slate and describe the scene. Actors should bring a script for the judges to reference during the audition.  The use of costumes and small props are permitted, but none will be provided by the academy.

  • Actors should also be prepared to do an improv skit based on a line or topic provided by the academy. Actors will have 10 minutes to prepare. The improv skit should not exceed 4 minutes. 

  • During the monologue audition, actors will be judged on accuracy of lines, the level of realistic portrayal of the character and scene, interpretation of the character, communication with the audience, and expressions of emotions and body language. During the improv skit, actors will be judged on creativity in addition to the previously listed criteria. 

 

Visual Artists:

  • Visual artists should prepare a cumulative digital portfolio and email it to information@premieracademyntx.com

  • Portfolios should include pictures of artistic pieces with descriptions and date of creation or completion. 

  • For audition day, artists should bring a piece of art that is meaningful to you. Be ready to describe it, including the technique you used.

Creative Writers:

  • Creative Writers should prepare a cumulative digital portfolio and email it to information@premieracademyntx.com

  • Portfolios should include manuscripts, play scripts, essays, short stories, poems, or excerpts from books. 

  • For audition day, creative writers should be prepared to explain their favorite piece, the meaning/interpretation of it, and why it is personally important or culturally relevant. 

 

Audition Fee

 

Auditions are now FREE! However, students may audition for a second group for an additional $10 fee. Simply add "Additional Audition" to your cart, and send an email to information@premieracademyntx.com

 

 

What happens next?

 

All prospective students will receive a letter and email with results. Students who are invited to enroll will schedule a family interview.  If the student and family decide they with to enroll their student, they will receive a 23'-24' school year contract within one week of the family interview. The school will continue to hold auditions until all positions are filled. More information about tuition and contracts can be found HERE on Tuition page.
